Former leader of Eliozu Youth Movement, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Comrade Amaewhule Omunakwe on Saturday has extolled Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for the strict condition which now guides the installation of a voted community member as youth president.
Speaking with OKB News Online in a brief interview, Omunakwe said, “the decision of the governor that a potential youth president must go to the Department of State Services (DSS) for screening and subsequently be endorsed by the paramount ruler of the community before becoming a youth president is a welcome development.”
“Aspiring youth leaders need to be interviewed to ascertain their capabilities in the wake of cult related activities that are currently playing out in some communities.”
The former youth leader stressed that it was not like this in the past as anybody could assume the position of a youth leader after winning an intra-communal election.
“In the past, anybody could contest in an election and be made a youth leader if he won. Now things are different. Also, going to the DSS for screening is a higher level and gives a youth leader the leverage to operate at such a level.”, he noted.
