The Director of Vivid Model School, Rumuokwurusi in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Honourable Etete Josiah Festus has blamed the fallen standard of education in Nigeria on obvious laxity on the part of the government and parents.
This he said over the weekend at the 8th end of session activities and graduation ceremony of the school, which featured music cantata, drama, cultural dance, among others.
In a brief interview with OKB News Online, Etete said, “as a school, we uphold the standard of education by the grace of God.
“People from different quarters of the country hold various opinion as regards the fall in the standard of education, and some of them say that it is the quality that has fallen. The quality remains the same, but the standard has fallen due to some policies made by the government that do not favour education and also as a result of parents’ laxity towards their children, which leads to the children being careless with their studies.
Proffering possible antidotes to the unhealthy development, he stressed that, “the standard can be raised if the government makes good policies that promote education. Parents should take the responsibility of educating their children and give the right priority to education knowing that education is the bedrock of every society.
Ogbuechi Onyemana, a female SS 1 student of the school said, “the school is a wonderful school where leaders are bred; it has qualified and disciplined teachers that teach well.
Jolly Pius is in JS 2 who expressed joy over the success of the ceremony and looks forward to the next edition.
