The Eze Emene/Nye Udu Ekpeye Logbo In-Council in Ahoada West and Ahoada East Local Government Areas of Rivers State, on Wednesday officially supported the choice of HRM Eze Felix Enene Otuwarikpo as the Regent to the throne of Eze Ekpeye Logbo of Ekpeye Ethnic Nation.
The Council said its decision to throw its support behind Eze Otuwarikpo was because it “is in accordance with the guidelines/byelaws of Ekpeye Ethnic Nation that came into force on August 10th 2010.”
The guidelines/byelaws which, according to the Council was written and signed with no objection from members of the Eze Ekpeye Logbo In-Council, spelt out how a Regent should emerge on the death or incapacitation of an incumbent of the throne of Eze Ekpeye Logbo In-Council.
Members of the Council made their position known in a communique signed by HRH Eze Chigemerem David, Eze Emene Echi Ubie of Ubie clan and HRH Eze Ikaki Sobere Ikaki, Eze Emene Okobo of Igbuduya clan, after a meeting of the Council held at the Ekpeye Council House, Ahoada Town.
In line with the guideline/byelaws, they informed that Eze Otuwarikpo was pronounced Nyeso Eze Ekpeye (Deputy President of the Eze Ekpeye Logbo In-Council) by the late Ekpeye monarch, His Imperial Majesty Eze Robinson O. Robinson, CON on 6th February, 2018.
Recall that Eze Otuwarikpo emerged as Eze Igbu Upata III on the 26th of August, 2017 and was elevated to a First Class traditional ruler on 16th of September 2017, the second to be upgraded in Ekpeyeland after the stool of Eze Ekpeye Logbo by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State.
Furthermore, the Council advised both Chief Macauley Okpara Romans and Chief Fynface Okpara to desist from speaking on its behalf and as well retract”all publications authored and circulated” by them within 14 days or “face legal/traditional actions.”
While they urged the Regent not to be distracted by the “antics of mischief makers and their backers,” the Council urged for support from all well meaning Ekpeye sons and daughters as a way to move forward.
