EDO: More Than 2,500 Households Benefit From N154.5m VSF Donation

Not fewer than 2,658 households in Edo State on Wednesday benefited from N154.5 million worth of items donated by the Victims Support Fund (VSF).

Mrs Toyosi Akerele, Chairperson, VSF Taskforce on COVID-19, presented the items to Mrs Betsy Obaseki, wife of the Edo Governor, for beneficiaries.

She said the items include foods, medical supplies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), adding that it was expected to reach vulnerable families in the state affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said that the VSF collaborates with state governments on a robust data driven monitoring and evaluation to ensure that donations made gets to the targets across the communities.

She disclosed that the VSF team would be visiting the Stella Obasanjo Hospital for inspection with a view to setting up an intensive care unit there.

She said the team was going round the country to support citizens and state governments as well as institutions in the face of the current global pandemic.

NAN reports that the food items donated include rice, beans, cassava flakes (garri), vegetable oil and salt.

Mrs Obaseki, in her response, said that the Edo Government appreciated the board and promoters behind the VSF.

She noted that the donations from the VSF stood out in quantity from all donations and palliatives received by the government so far.

She gave assurance that people of the state would benefit from the donations, adding that all parts of the state would benefit from it.

Meanwhile Mr Ayuba Sedenu, a member of the Edo State COVID-19 Relief Team, said that so far no fewer than 140,000 households have benefitted from distribution of palliatives by the state Government.

He explained that the state government have been transparent in the distribution of palliatives, adding that the government now gives out palliatives through religious bodies and traditional rulers.

Similarly Pastor Solomon Folorunsho, the coordinator of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, Uhorgua, near Benin, appreciated the donors as well as the Federal and State Government.

Folorunsho said that the donation was encouraging, as the standstill in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic had given the management of the camp lots of challenge.
