Court Acquits ‘Ikoku Four’ Six Weeks After Arrest Alongside Late Mechanic, Chima Ikwunado In Rivers

More than six weeks after the arrest by the ‘Eagle Crack’ (E-Crack) Unit of the Mile 1 Police Command and subsequent death of Chima Ikwunado, a Magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt has discharged and acquitted four others who were arrested alongside the deceased and detained at the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Names of persons who were released by the courts are: Victor Ogbonna, Ifeanyi Osuji, Osaze Friday and Ifeanyi Onyekwere.

Recall that the young men were arrested and dispossessed of their cash on December 19, 2019 for driving against the traffic along Ikwerre Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The E-Crack police levelled several allegations on them including car theft and involvement in cult activities.

In the court proceeding, however, the department of public prosecution said they had no case to answer.

The report revealed that the charges by the police were unfounded and based on mere suspicion leading the magistrate to order their release.

The men had been arraigned before the magistrate court which later declined jurisdiction and referred the case to the department of public prosecution.
